Frieder and his wife Nina, a doctor, are fixing up their house, though their relationship is obviously strained. Instead of picking up their young daughter Charlotte, Nina drives off to visit her brother Christoph in an isolated cabin. From there, she cycles to a sports hotel in the woods where she stays. Aimlessly wandering around the hotel, she has a brief encounter with an old tennis pro who has been giving demonstrations. Her brother, Frieder, and Charlotte find her, but she does not come home with them. After all the old windows have been removed, Frieder rejects the replacement ones that are delivered. Frieder has a liaison an old girlfriend Maria, who is now Charlotte's nursery school teacher. Nina returns to the house without windows.

The four protagonists face multiple misadventures to persuade Guevara to appear at the festival.

Reviews

Literally, a sleeper tv flick.

I love slow burn horror films so these types of films are not alien to me. But as I watched this, I began adjusting myself in my seat with the thoughts about how much further it would take to reach the end credits. That's how terribly bored I felt watching this unstimulating, mundane film. I just felt apathy toward the whole story. I wasn't impressed with the cinematography or setting.

The home look like an ordinary atypical Connecticut home from the outside were the cinematographer used some care to not photograph the driveway and street in front of it. YAWN.

Uniquely suspenseful; horrifying

Literally came across this film by accident. Watched it as a fan of period dramas and gothic tales. The description reminded me of The Witch and Lady Macbeth (British,2016.). This film sets the tone and atmosphere of 1840s puritan beliefs down to the last detail. The acting is subtle and all actors give stellar performances, particularly the "matriarch." This is where the horror comes into play. Is the matriarch truly evil in the demonic sense of the word, or a religious nutcase? Rory Culkin is phenomenal as a late arriving sinister stranger. And the ending! You will not see it coming. This I can promise you. No, this film does not have masses of death, blood or guts, no yawning gates of hell or walking dead. So pass on it if that is your style. If you are up for a well done entertaining independent film that will keep you interested to the end, it is worth the watch.

Not super fun for 19th century lesbians

The 1800s were dark, dreary, way over-religious and not favorable to any sort of gayness. If you didn't know that, well then this film might have something to offer you.

For the rest of us, it's just a slow retread of this time in history.
