Movie Description:
Jack Brooks escaped the pogroms in 1923 and went on to become one of the premier speedskaters of interwar America. He skated with the U.S. Olympic team, and traveled to Lake Placid in 1932 for the III Olympic Winter Games. But his dream was cut short. Singled out because of the religion he practiced and the place he called home, the 'speedster from Poland' became a spectator on the sidelines. This is the story of his life, and the lives of the men and women who came after him. This is a testament to their collective fight for fairness, and to the abiding spirit that sport can and should advance greater understanding of ourselves and each other.

Director Terry Gilliam is the latest filmmaker to try and bring Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra's "Don Quixote de la Mancha" to the big screen, the movie to be called The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Before filming even begins, Gilliam, who has moved from Hollywood studio to European financing, will have to scale back his vision as his budget has been slashed from $40 million to $32 million, still astronomical by European standards. But Gilliam is a dreamer, much like his title character, and his vision for the movie is uncompromising, meaning with the reduced budget that there is no margin for error and that some of his department heads may have to achieve miracles with their allotted moneys. During pre-production and actual filming, what Gilliam does not foresee is contractual and health issues with his actors, and the effects of Mother Nature. The question is does Gilliam have a Plan B if/when things go wrong.

Guided by Liv Ullmann and with commentaries from a number of prominent filmmakers for whom Bergman is and remains an important influence - such as Woody Allen, Olivier Assayas, Bernardo Bertolucci, Arnaud Desplechin, John Sayles, Martin Scorsese and Lars von Trier, the film provides a vivid portrait of the artist who in each new project found a challenge for himself and for the people he worked with - both actors and colleagues behind the camera.

This movie transcends Sports and is a must watch! Had me in the feels the whole time!! Definitely a great movie to watch with friends and family!

Surprisingly powerful

Came across this on FandangoNow. Very important message from some of the bigger names in sports. Cool film.

Very well done

It was great to see a young new director take on a project that relies on an enormous amount of historical information handed out by Pulitzer Prize Historians. The real heart and soul of the film brings us full circle to "Today's Game Changers" These are not only the athletes themselves but Civil Rights Activists like Michael Skolnick and Hudson Taylor who encourage them to break the barriers of institutional racism that are embedded in our society.I will recommend On Thin Ice to my network for sure.
