Reviews

I was told to watch this film without reading the synopsis or seeing the trailer. I'm glad I followed that advice.

Clearly I was expecting a different watch based on the title, but was pleasantly surprised when the story started unravelling. Newb filmmakers Adam Patterson and Declan Lawn co-wrote and co-directed, and aside from slow pacing (especially the first half), they put together a nice suspenseful film. The last half got crazy tense and wow, what an intense true story this was. James Norton and Gemma Arterton played their roles great. Had the pacing been a little faster and/or the 115 min runtime trimmed down to around 95 mins, this film would've been near perfect. If anything, just watch it for the mind-boggling story from true events.

Rogue Agent

Surprising true story of Robert Freegard (James Norton), a con man who persuades his victims he an MI5 spy, recruiting them and then getting them to commit funds to help avoid being exposed and even killed, usually by the IRA. The focus is upon his latest target, solicitor, Gemma Arterton and how she sets out to get him.

Interesting enough thriller, once again showing what a terrific actor Norton is, who can jump with great ease from deeply charming to deeply unpleasant. Arterton does well as the woman who falls head over heels in love with him and then has to overcome that to get her revenge. It has its moments but comes across more as a Sunday night tv thriller and really only comes truly alive when Norton is in it. Worth a look, but not exactly ground breaking.

Quite an amazing story.

Rogue Agent is based on true events and the least you could say is that it isquite a remarkable story. It's unbelievable how some people are so easily fooled and influenced. It's not uncommon to see there are sociopaths in every era. People without emotions, who don't care at all to destroy other people's lives just for the kick of it. You can't help to feel sorry for the victims. The acting was more than decent I thought. Easy to follow, the story is just very captivating and entertaining. Certainly worth a watch.
