Reviews

I loved this movie, reminded me of The Notebook alil.

I loved the entire movie, I really got involved in there stories and understood the fathers dislike towards his son because of his dark skin and his likeness towards his other son because of his lighter skin colour.

I loved the strong mother in this film. She was the rock for Bayou and as most mothers, she represented a shield against the bullying from the dad and son. What was also sad was everyones need to somehow survive and there were two paths each one had to take.

This film was lovely , it reminded me of the notebook, However, this film was tragic but it was understandably tragic on all sides.

What took you so long Tyler Perry?

I've never been a big fan of Tyler Perry's films. Too often they lack subtlety and are too preachy. I understand A Jazzman's Blues was the first script he ever wrote and to date it's his best. The cast is pitch perfect as is the direction, costume and production design. The last image of a man who believes he's 100% white sitting on his porch beneath a rebel flag of the Old South is priceless. Mr. Perry seems to be saying that given the intermingling of the races in the deep south via forced copulation among other things, how can one ever be sure of the purity of the bloodline that affords one a high or low status within society. Better to judge people by the content of their character and/or their achievements. It's a message that Mr. Perry handles with elegance and subtlety in this his finest film.

Loved it

The movie was terrific and heartbreaking. Love and jealousy are always a dangerous combination, and that plot has been used before you felt like you knew what was coming, and still, it somewhat came and somewhat didn't but made you feel for every character and their story.

You will fall in love with one of the characters. The actor does a fantastic job of making him relatable.

This did happen in 1940, and it was not as horrific as it could have been but accurate enough to remind you that it was very long ago death was always at the door. So much loss and pain, love, and hope for better gone very fast,
